About Your Instructors

Ms. K'ai Roberts and Mr. Grant Magnus teach real people the art of improvisational Argentine Tango for the social floor.  They draw from a broad range of knowledge to connect with their students, whether engineer, artist, computer scientist, college student, or retired executive.  For those who think they are too cerebral to dance, they are reminded that "Tango is like mobile chess - constant problem-solving, but with a beautiful woman in your arms."

K’ai has been dancing since the age of three and teaching since she was thirteen.  She was introduced to tango in 1999, and by 2001 was co-teaching weekly classes and the semi-annual Argentine Tango boot camps in Honolulu, HI.  Her teaching and performance credits include the Japan World Tango Festival; Tango at Sea Cruise; Maui Tango Festival; Portland Tango Festival; Dallas Tango-Thon; and various milongas & workshops in California, Tokyo, Texas, and Buenos Aires.  For several years she taught the annual "March Milonga Madness" close-embrace milonga intensive in Honolulu.

K'ai has had the extreme honor & privilege of partnering Carlos Gavito, Jorge Torres, and Cacho Dante, among others, in workshops in Honolulu; and studied intensively over a four year period with  Susana Miller, one of Argentina's finest ambassadors for close embrace, or "milonguero", style tango.

Grant and K’ai’s story reads like the theme of a tango song…with the addition of a happy ending.  The two met briefly in a tango class in Honolulu in 1999.  Grant, an entrepreneur, was busy running his own media and event company, and they lost touch.  In 2008, Grant and K’ai met anew, and they started dancing together again.  K’ai soon relocated to join Grant in Texas.  Since October of 2009, the couple has been teaching and performing Argentine Tango in DFW.

Grant and K’ai teach under the banner “Tango North Dallas”, with weekly classes in Frisco, and the monthly “Practical Cats Milonga” on second Fridays, also in Frisco.
